How to Use the Import & Export Feature
- Overview
- Feature Purpose
- How do I use the feature?
- Exporting project or its elements
- Importing a project or its elements
- Restrictions and Notifications.
Overview
The Import/Export feature in Convert Experiences enables users to back up and migrate various elements within a project—including goals, audiences, and locations. This is especially useful for agencies or teams that want to standardize settings across projects or for those managing multiple client accounts with similar setups.
This document explains the functionality and provides a step-by-step guide to help users leverage the Import/Export feature effectively.
Feature Purpose
- Save and Migrate Project Settings: Export the entire project
- Template Creation: Export configurations as templates that can be imported into new projects, ideal for standardized setups.
- Selective Import/Export: Choose to export/import entire projects or only selected goals, audiences, and locations.
How to Use the Import/Export Feature
Accessing the Feature
- Navigate to Project Configuration in the Convert Experiences dashboard.
- Select the Import & Export tab.
Export a Project or Project Elements
Export allows you to download project configurations in JSON format, which can later be imported to another project or as a template.
Steps for Exporting:
- In the Import & Export tab, click on the Export button.
- Select Export Type:
- Full Project Export: Exports all project settings, i.e., goals, experiences, audiences, locations, and hypothesis.
- (Specific Elements)/Partial Export: Select specific elements (goals, audiences, locations).
- Full Project Export: Exports all project settings, i.e., goals, experiences, audiences, locations, and hypothesis.
- Choose the project elements you want to export. Click Edit next to each element type to specify individual items (or leave it as “All” for full export).
- Click Export to download a JSON file containing your selected project data.
Note: Exported JSON files are saved locally and can be imported into other Convert projects or shared across accounts.
Import a Project or Project Elements
Import allows you to load a saved JSON file to restore or replicate project configurations. You can import all or specific elements from the file.
Steps for Importing:
- In the Import & Export tab, click on the Import button.
- Drag and drop the JSON file or click Browse to locate the file.
- Choose to overwrite or merge with existing project data if conflicts are detected.
- Click Import to complete the process.
Note: If importing into an existing project, elements like goals will retain their IDs, but any new goals, audiences, or locations will adopt new IDs within the project.
Manage Restrictions and Notifications
- Plan Restrictions: Some user plans allow only importing, while others enable both importing and exporting.
- Permission-Based Access: Access to Import/Export features is controlled by user roles.
- Notifications: You will receive notifications confirming import/export success and errors if the process fails.
