Event Codes Visibility for Shopify Order Pages
Manage Event Code Visibility on Shopify Order Pages for Enhanced Flexibility
IN THIS ARTICLE YOU WILL
- Get an Overview of Event Codes
- Why Enable/Disable them
- Know how to Control their Visibility
- Learn their Default Setting
Overview
Event codes are metadata displayed on Shopify order pages to facilitate tracking and analytics in Convert.com. While these codes are valuable for advanced tracking, they may be unnecessary or confusing for some users. Convert.com now provides the option to enable or disable the visibility of these codes, giving businesses greater flexibility.
Convert.com's Shopify app tracks purchases in two ways: (1) Through a Shopify event that is triggered when a customer completes checkout, and (2) Through a webhook that fires at the same moment with all the purchase details. This webhook serves as a backup tracking method when the checkout event does not fire correctly.
Why Enable or Disable Event Codes?
Benefits of Enabling Event Codes
- Improved Tracking: Enables advanced analytics and better data accuracy for tracking orders and conversions.
- Enhanced Integration: Allows seamless data transfer to tools like Google Analytics and Shopify's reporting features.
- Backup Tracking Method: Ensures that purchases are still tracked accurately even if the Shopify event does not fire properly.
Drawbacks of Enabling Event Codes
- Customer Confusion: Visible event codes may confuse end users if they appear on order pages.
- Interface Clutter: This may add unnecessary fields to the Shopify order page, which could affect its simplicity.
- Possible Interference with Third-Party Apps: When enabled, Convert.com's Shopify app adds a customer note to the order, which contains tracking data. While this note is not visible to customers, some Shopify stores use third-party apps (such as shipping or order management apps) that might display or process these notes. In such cases, the extra note might be seen as unnecessary or disruptive.*
How to Control Event Code Visibility
You can manage the visibility of event codes directly from the Convert.com dashboard.
