Creating Effective Experiences: A Guide to Location Setup
Optimize Your A/B Testing by Selecting the Right Location for Your Experience
THIS ARTICLE WILL HELP YOU
What Are Locations?
Locations determine where and when your experience will appear. When setting up an experience in Convert, you can choose from three options:
- Experience URL
- Saved Locations
- New Locations
Let's break these down in simple terms.
1. Experience URL
The Experience URL is the main web address where your experience will be shown.
How it works: This option creates a new location that matches exactly the entered experience URL while creating a new experience. Choosing this option will trigger your experience only on the entered URL while creating an experience.
Example: If your experience is for a specific page, you might enter: https://www.convert.com/pricing
💡 Tip: Make sure the URL is correct, as this is the main way your experience will be triggered.
2. Saved Locations
Saved Locations let you reuse rules you’ve already created. This is useful when multiple experiences need to follow the same conditions.
How it works: Instead of creating a new rule each time, simply select an existing rule from your saved list.
Example: If you’ve already set up a rule for a category page, you can use it again for other similar experiences.
💡 Tip: Using Saved Locations saves time and keeps your setup consistent.
3. New Locations
New Locations let you create custom rules for showing your experience. These rules can be more advanced than just using a web address.
How it works: You can set up rules based on:
- Web Address & Keywords: Show the experience when certain words are in the URL.
- Page Tags: Use tracking tags to decide when to show the experience.
- Custom Rules: Set specific conditions, like showing the experience only to users coming from a certain link.
Example: Find more about locations by reading this article
💡 Tip: Use this option for more advanced or highly customized targeting.
How to Choose the Right Option
- Use Experience URL when you want a simple, page-specific setup.
- Use Saved Locations if you’ve already set up a similar rule and want to reuse it.
- Use New Locations for more customized and detailed rules that is not currently setup within your saved locations.
Understanding these options helps ensure your experiences show up at the right time and place, making them more effective for your users.
